fine vs gross motor skills (left/right)

Yes. Per Mizner, tai chi strategy is not restricted to left or right. “The Whole Body Is A Hand...”

Can you do what Minzer does?

If you could do what Minzer does, you would understand the meaning is much different than what you’re attempting to portray it as.

To put strong side forward has advantage. Here are examples.

If you put strong side forward, when your opponent tries to play with your strong arm, he will be in trouble.

If you put your strong side back, when your opponent picks up your leading leg, your powerful back hand cannot punch on his head because he moves in through your "side door".
Note that the guy on the left had his strong side in contact with the other guy and he had an arm hook yet was still taken down. Why? He didn't immediately use his position to his advantage! Situations offer opportunities to both combatants. This just illustrates my point IMO. As I said earlier:
In all cases of facing both you and the opponent have the identical risks and opportunities. It's just a matter of who recognizes them and acts on them first and more effectively.
In the case in this clip, the left guy did not press his advantage, rather he hesitated, and his opponent took over. As Ed Parker was fond of saying, "He who hesitates meditates in the horizontal position." When in close contact with the opponent, strong and swift action is required.

This allegory is a useful descriptor, the physical reality that makes the concept useful is something that is difficult to learn, and even more difficult to describe without demonstrating.

This is an interesting topic. I think fine motor skills can definitely be learned for either side. I got really bad carple tunnel in my right wrist for overuse. Mainly being right hand dominant and then using a right hand mouse for the computer 8 hrs a day. I switched to using my mouse left handed and now I have no wrist issues.

As far as marital arts I fight using a traditional left hand in front stance most of the time. My left leg has always been better to the point that I'd prefer doing back kicks with my left leg as well. Just randomly now something clicked and doing a right foot spin side kick now feels normal. Bodies are weird and sometimes have no explanation.

We teach it a little differently. If an opponent/attacker is using one (or two) hand to grab/hold you but Not in a constraining manner, don't worry about it. It can't affect you and You can have control of it. Use it to your advantage as leverage or as one less member that could block your attack/counter.

It's to your opponent's advantage if he has contact point that's he can sense your intention, but you can't sense his intention.

- You have right side forward. Your opponent has left side forward.
- Your opponent's right hand touches your left elbow joint.
- You try to punch him with your right back hand.
- Your opponent pushes your left elbow to your right and jam your own right punch.

You may say when your opponent touches your arm, you can sense his intention too. But your opponent hand is on your elbow joint. He can easily move your arm than you can move his arm.

Touching my elbow and grabbing/having hold of me are two very different things.
