From the article: "Last month, the FBI began implementation of an anti-obscenity initiative designed to crack down on those that produce and distribute deviant pornography. According to FBI headquarters, the war against smut is 'one of the top priorities' of Attorney General Gonazalez and FBI Director Robert Meuller. Although law enforcement agencies have always been aggressive when it comes to prosecuting exploitative child pornographers, this new initiative is unique in that it targets Internet pornography featuring consenting adults."

My opinion?

While I whole-heartedly support crackdowns on such "wonderful" things as child porn, I have to wonder why in this time of constant terrorist alarm, that it's felt that the nations highest LEA needs to deal with porn.

I guess since it's been proven that they can't handle the "drug war" (Oh wait, they lost), the War on Terror (what are we at orange, red, plaid? Does anyone know?), stopping illegal imegration (yup, lets give them SSI), the importation of sex slaves, etc., that they now need to go after the numskulls who like to look at pictures of horse-diddlers. Ok.

Now, if they could just tell me what is and isn't porn in clear english I might feel better.

In the mean time, I'm going to go hide my copy of "KenpoChicks Gone Wild!".

The Amerikan-Taliban is now in office. Heil!

Censoring the internet... Good to set goals that can be achieved isn't it?

Forget the fact that material not legal in the States can jest be hosted overseas somewhere that it is legal...

Just more politicians trying to bump the important stuff out of the spotlight and appear to be doing things in the name of "Family Values".

If it is between consenting adults (age of consent) then it's none of my or the governments business.

However, if it's NOT between consenting adults - in other words, child porn - then I really want the government to catch these scum and turn them over to me and my friends. It'll save us all some tax dollars. To me, that's where the government belongs on this issue - going after the deviants who are hurting children.

Yeah well, problem is that probably a large percentage of deviant porn is created and web-sited in countries where there are no such laws and thus it will still be produced. Those viewing are going to be the only ones proscucuted which does little (IMO) to curtail this filth from being created. Stop the creation of this stuff and there's little for anyone to look at. .... Yeah that's naive thinking I know.
Still they (U.S. LEA's) need to make life difficult for those involved with this stuff whether they view it or make it... here in the U.S.
What is porn and what is art has been a sticky issue for a long time. Maplethorpe shot bizzare sexual images and was hailed as an artist. Larry Flint and Bob Guccione publishes porn magazines. Where's the line... only in your head I think.
Society has and will continue to determine what is "best for everyone" In Utah the viewing of porn in some cities is illegal, yet ironically it was (still?) holding the national record for most porn rentals. Go figure.
Who makes the call indeed? The voters I should believe is the correct answer ... isn't it?

To me, it's simple and beyond the scope of country borders.

Either you are old enough to make a consenting decision or you are not. I don't care where you live, a ten year old does not have the ability to decide whether they are ready to be anally penetrated or not. Child pornography has nothing to do with choice. It is (in my mind) evil and abusive. I say this to let any one here know that I am not open to discussion on this and I don't want to have an argument about it. iYou won't change my mind about it, so i don't want to waste your time. I firmly believe that chat groups enable us to discuss our opinions and communicate. You can not communicate with me on this subject (maybe a personal problem I admit). I KNOW that Child Porn is evil and I am not rational about it. I deal every day with the end result of this type of rape, and don't kid yourself, child porn is rape.


MACaver - you are absolutely right that it will happen anyway, that doesn't mean I have to accept it. It is a horrible thing, and if I ever come across it, it wil be the end of me, because I believe that it must be stoped at all costs, even my own life. I'm not rational about it, I admit. However, I have spent time with early teens that have been through it, and I have been severely affected by their stories.

As for the rest, I hold to my opinion that if an adult or someone of the age of consent says yes, then let them go at it.

This "crackdown" is about more than "kiddie porn" though. This new initiative is unique in
that it targets Internet pornography featuring consenting adults.

Oh, and the agents themselves are thrilled:

"I guess this means we've won the war on terror," said one exasperated FBI agent, speaking on the condition of anonymity because poking fun at headquarters is not regarded as career-enhancing. "We must not need any more resources for espionage."

This, combined with the new 2257 record keeping regulations will do little to nothing to stop the illegal porn, but simply serve to drive the smaller shops under, violate the rights and freedoms of alot of honest adults (who like watching others "do it") and drive a billion dollar industry overseas and underground.

This is stupid. I read about this before. From what I gather, this is a specific initiative completely separate from child porn issues. Instead it will be focused on stuff, that while it is "too devient" in somebodies opionion is taking place between two (or however many) consenting adults.

That is just stupid.

As if the FBI has nothing better to do at this point?
