Different Tatsuo. He was asking about Tatsuo Shimabuku, who founded IsshinRyu. Here is an example of some of his SD techs, many of the motions you will recognize from the empty hand katas if you are familiar with them.


To Bill Mattocks: A step through punch is a punch off of the lead hand, very similiar to Isshinryu's first basic. You step with your rear foot "through" the centerline and it becomes the lead foot before punching. In many other styles this stepthrough is much more pronounced due to the depth of the stance.

Here is an example of a stepthrough punch and a "kenpo counter" like the original question referred to.
