Firefighters wearing protective breathing apparatus were called to D'Arblay Street, Soho, after reports of noxious smoke filling the air.
Police closed off three roads and evacuated homes following the alert.
Specialist crews broke down the door to the Thai Cottage restaurant at 1900 BST on Monday where they discovered the source - a 9lb pot of chillies.

I bet they're just glad they weren't in Boston, then they'd be getting charged with having a hoax device :D

I'm reminded of Sandra Bullock in "Demolition Man"

"...and it has been deemed that anything not good for you is bad, hence illegal. Alcohol, caffeine, contact sports, meat... Bad language, chocolate, gasoline, uneducational toys and anything spicy. Abortion is also illegal but so is pregnancy if you don't have a licence..."

:D

Only if they brought it to in to the Tunnel or to the airport. More likely we would have charged them for not cooking a pot of chowda instead ;)

I quite agree, Andrew. Cheese liberally mixed with cliche but with an actual underlying message if you care to read it.

On the chilli front, mock ye not - vapourised irritants are no fun :cries:.

Very true! A few years back a roomate and I grew some habeneros and dried them out in the oven at a low heat...we had to wear our issued protective masks to walk around in the kitchen.

Cooking chilies is not terrorism. Feeding chilies to unsuspecting whiteboys isn't either, however it is really mean
