This is kind of good example of dealing with the media.
It seems obvious to me that the instructor (Iglesias) wanted to deal mainly with modern, unarmed stuff. But the reporter is the one who was able to determine what questions to be asked and what would be edited out and what would be left in.
Did Iglesias ever talk about naginata, yoroi or anything that is not really part of modern combat- not much if at all. He answered a few questions about the sword.
Heck, do you think that the instructor would have hit the roof if he knew he was going to be described as a ninja? I would say so.
But look at how much time guys wearing armor got compared with anything else. Also note that they were not being discussed.
The media wants to deal with the unusual and the exotic. That is what gets viewers. But of course, it skews the image of Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu.
Just a warning to those who open their dojos to the media. If you want a more striking example, take a look at the martial art segment of the Borat movie. At least in this clip there is no question on how to beat a woman or a jew.
