Ahhh, that's better

This is not a statement on one art being better than another, this is simply what I am feeling, my opinion, based on my personal experience and how it effects me

Been back and forth, recently, debating with myself (not out loud) about Taijiquan, Baguazhang, Xingyiquan, Jeet Kune Do and Wing Chun. And Taijiquan, being the one I have trained longest (30+ years), seemed to always come to the top of my training list, even though I am getting real tired of it.

I decided against JKD for the simple reasons, I am to old, slow and inflexible to keep up with it. And although the school teacher and class were great, I came to realize I was now that old guy in the room that people trained with, but in some cases would rather not, It also showed me how old, slow and inflexible I have become.

I decided to stick with Wing Chun and even though I am still the old guy in the room, and I often find myself looking in the mirror in front of the training hall, and thinking, "Who is that old, uncoordinated, fool...oh wait, that's me", I like it and it seems to fit me better. But it is a traditional CMA style and I guess I'm an old CMA Traditionalist.

I also decided to stop Xingyiquan in favor of getting back to Baguazhang, and even started working on a Yin 8 palm I use to do. Over the years I have trained Yin 8 palm, Cheng 8 palm and a swiming dragon form that was either Jiang or Liang style.

So I was working on Wing Chun, Taijiquan and Baguazhang prior to my trip. But the Taijiquan bit, which was the lions share of the training, was feeling like a chore and I was mostly talking myself into doing it, every single time. And, at times, it became a road block to my training because I felt I should do it first.

While on vacation, the only thing I trained was Wing Chunm the only thing I had room for actually. And while on vacation, to be honest, I didn't think about any of it, until Hong Kong. I saw a sign for "Authentic Yip Man Wing Chun". This got me to look for the "Yip Man Martial Arts Athletic Association", which I did find the location of. However I did not go to either place, this was a family vacation and both place were about an hour away from my hotel. But this got me thinking about all this martial arts stuff again.

The next evening my daughter and wife wanted to go shopping, and I didn't want to, so I went to Hong Kong harbor in Kowloon and took a walk, just being a tourist, taking pictures, avoiding bloggers filming themselves (there was a surprising number of bloggers there), I stopped at the railing and just started looking at the harbor.

And while looking at the harbor it became rather obvious to me, that I need to continue Wing Chun and return to Xingyiquan. Ironically, I noticed I was standing at the waters edge and directly behind me was the statue of Bruce Lee, and I did not realized this until I turned to head back to the hotel. I knew it was there somewhere, I had been to it 2 days prior, but I was not paying attention to where I was standing, until I turned to leave.

Got back to the states last Thursday (also interesting, I left Tokyo airport at 11:00am Thursday morning and landed at JFK 10:50am Thursday morning). This morning, after getting the first good night sleep since I returned (Think the jet lag is finally done) I went to my basement Kwoon 館 or Guǎn 館 depending on the style raining at the moment, and stood in Santi Shi for a bit, did some xingyiquan basic training, Siu lim tao and some mook jong work and it was easy to do, felt great and did not have to force myself. No Taijiquan or baguazhang was trained.

So, I am going to work a lot on Xingyiquan basics/foundational stuff and Wing Chun. I plan on still doing 3 of the taiji forms I still do (there us to be a whole lot more, including all of my forms from traditional Yang style), about once a week, so I don't forget them. The time may come where that is all I can do. But I am going to go with WIng Chun and Xingyiquan. It just feels more right for me than Traijiquan and Baguazhang.

On a slightly different note, I have a minor tear my rotator cuff, so I am taking it easy, but the things I did this morning were not an issue, other than right Bong Sau, that is not good at all

Don't know why I felt the need to post this, but the deed has been done.
