AAU Dan rank?

Does anyone know if you need to have AAU Dan rank to compete in AAU events? They have a Dan match program and do Dan testing but is this necessary? Also, they accept ITF Taewkondo, WT Taekwondo, and TSD/MDK for their rank transfers? So would a Tang Soo Do practitioner be given Taekwondo rank in the AAU without ever practicing Taekwondo?
