I enjoy xing yi, because I've found their qi control similar to kendo's. However, I cannot find any way to harmonize xing yi with bagua yet, so I haven't practiced with Xing Yi as much as I have other martial arts.

There is a person who practices Xing Yi who I would say is about intermediate level, and I greatly enjoy sparring with him. However, he has oriented the style to be pure reactive, and is very, very stiff, in part from back problems, but also because he has yet to realize that constant tension is making him fight himself more than giving extra power behind his blows. He hits very hard, but I've found the style, with bagua, is easily countered.

I'd love to trade hands with a skilled practioner of the art, but I have yet to meet one in the NOVA area unfortunately.
