Well, I've only thrown pie. I like it how the pie crust can stick to a person's face when thrown properly. What I don't like about it, is how slippery the linoleum tiled floors get after one or two gets thrown.

Cake or Pie?

Pies come in pans. Cakes are usually removed from their pans. So Pies stay together longer and with the tinfoil like pans they are not dangerous (* or should I say less dangerous. *)

Thank for pointing that out. It is pretty much a no brainer.

To echo the others, if pie is good enough for the Three Stooges, it's good enough for me.

Cake is also the appropriate foodstuff for face smearing (usually only during weddings).

But being a traditionalist, I agree: when it comes to throwing, it's gotta be pies.

But real pies are better. Whip cream platters are a cheapo substitute.

If you get a chance, check out "The Great Race." A classic dessert food fight appears in that film including thrown pies galore and a climactic fall into a cake. I think they even pushed the envelope and had some cake thrown, but I'm not sure about that.
