So anyway, at my first dojo they taught both Judo and Karate although the two arts were taught separately. So if you wanted to take classes there you could sing up for Judo and take Judo classes or you could sign up for Karate and take Karate classes. You could of course sign up for both but if you did you would learn the arts separately. You would be taking both Judo and Karate classes but you would never take them together. So you would be learning each art separately.
From my experience that's how I would prefer to learn the arts. If I was learning a striking based art such as Karate I would want to take classes devoted entirely to that art and if I was learning a grappling based art such as Judo I would want to take classes to that art. After I've gained a good level of proficiency in Judo and Karate that's when I might want to do some MMA to help me combine the arts.
That's just me, other people might have other learning preferences but that's just how I like to do it.
