The "Look! Look at my cool workout!" thread

"It's just a ladder up to 10 pushups, situps and 10kg turkish getups, come on, how hard can it be?"
Why do I believe my own stupid lies?

Did Turkish getups with a barbell for the first time today- warmed up then did 1 rep on each side with a 20kg bar then barbell curls to failure (10 reps) with the same weight
seishan 3 times
tae guek yuk jang a few times
Pushups: 8 narrow 'triangle' pushups, 8 normal pushups (all I could squeeze out) and 5 double width pushups.

Not trying for anything earth shattering, just learning the techniques.

The safe and productive way to deadlift is ironically the polar opposite of what people like Stuart McRoberts describe. It's the high reps and rest/pause techniques that cause the most problems

Mark Rippetoe talks an awful lot of sith. I can do pushups with a fully grown woman and her 5 year old child on my back, but I can't do 30 pushups to save my life. Fitness seems to be very specific, and sometimes being able to do particular motions with added resistance trumps generalised athletic ability. I mean, I have great respect and even a certain guarded affection for the guy, but he overplays his hand.

After my main workout, I'm trying a classic way to bump my chins up, which have become pitiful. Do 1, wait a minute, do another, repeat once more, then every session reduce the rest time by 15 seconds, or as able. Then move on to 2 with a minute's rest and repeat the process. Supposedly, it stops working once you hit about 9 chins, but people swear by it

How many people can you rend to bits with your hands before gassing?

I’m guessing you’ve got quite the handshake.

OK, so now I can do 30 pushups. Gonna persist with them until I get 41 or so which would be intermediate for my height, weight and age, then start doing harder variations. Also, Rosie and the kids are coming over for easter so I will be able to do pushups with them on my back again!

"Come on, it's only 5 more reps per round! How hard can it be?"
Again, I believe my own stupid lies because secretly I want to

Did a nice Kenpo workout in my kitchen today. Went through all my self-defense techs and forms with pushups in between. My cats came downstairs to be the audience 😺

Added a few tweaks to my workout. It now consists of:

Round one:
1,2,1 turkish getups (i.e. 1 rep with left, two reps with right, 1 rep with left) @ half work weight (10kg)
chin (one measly chin...)
10 pushups

Rounds 2 and 3:
same with 15 pushups and full work weight on TGU (i.e.20kg)

Last round: same as first round

finally, a finisher of 40kg overhead dumbbell swings, just did 10 of them and stretch

Next time, I'll do a few rounds on the bag as well. Skipped this time because my knees were starting to complain.
The main difference is that the number of rounds stays consistent and only the reps of the pushups and chins and microloads onto the dumbbell with the TGU will progress. I'll probably stick with 40kg working weight on the swings for a good long time to come, but I will be aiming to do more reps.

I've developed a little warmup to go with it:
General flexibility:40-100 toe touches leaning back when you return to the top, 20-50 cross body alternating toe touches
Initial pulse raiser: a round of skipping. Call it jumping rope if that honestly threatens your masculinity
Specific flexibility; This is a very general workout, so I just work on various stretches I'm behind in, like cow-face pose
Final pulse raiser: the first round of the workout

Just been ambushed by Pavel's quick and the dead routine. Gonna get the book. Seems a lot simpler and ticks all the boxes than my homebrew

My first quick and the dead workout today. Went for the 30kg dumbbell so as not to overdo it on my first day, 'active recovery' involved the pinans, naihanchi and taeguek yuk jang
THAT was some of the most FUN I have had in the gym for quite some time!

My pushups are lagging behind the rest of my lifts and exercises. So I'm swiching everything else on to maintenance mode and doing a pushup and squat challenge. I'm including air squats because I've been neglecting the movement. It works like this: Yesterday I did 1 knuckle pushup and 2 squats. Today I did two knuckle pushups and 4 squats. I will continue to do N pushups and 2N air squats daily until I reach N=100 (100 in a session, not necessarily in a single set)

In my next gym session- after I have recovered- I am changing the way I do things a little in view of what I am trying to achieve. Resistance training will be a separate, once or twice weekly session consisting of the following:

Start with 10 reps each of:
Push exercise 1 (pushups, basically. They're always the first exercise, it's the law)
Ab move 1(ab wheel rollouts)
Single leg move (single leg box squats)
Push exercise 2(in this case dips)
Back/bicep move(chins or curls)
Main exercise: Deadlifts at 100kg
Ab move 2 (twist situps)
'Gasper'(in this case I'll make use of my skipping rope)

Repeat circuit 2-3 times, 2-3 mins rest between circuits
Progression will be by adding 5kg to the weighted exercises as able and adding 5 reps to bodyweight exercises, again as able.

The idea is to maximise my use of my equipment, to make use of everything I've got. My other training sessions throughout the week will focus on kata, bag work and other forms of cardio.
