Pivoting / force-reflex exercise

Senior Master
This an easy pivoting / force-reflex exercise that beginners can try.
  • PARTNER A faces PARTNER B with his / her guard up.
  • PARTNER B places a hand on each shoulder of PARTNER A.
  • PARTNER B will push on either shoulder at random ( DON'T PUSH BOTH SHOULDERS AT ONCE )
  • PARTNER A will yield to the incoming force by pivoting .
  • As PARTNER A pivots he will simultaneously deflect the partners pushing arm by raising his guard on that side and striking with a light palm strike to PARTNER B's chest with the other hand.
  • After getting accustomed to the movement PARTNER A should perform the exercise with their eyes closed .
TIPS
  • Don't try to anticipate which arm he will push with , just relax and react to the push.
  • Let the force of his push power your pivot.
  • Don't pivot more than approx 45 degrees , stance will be compromised.
  • Stay sunk down , locked in and pivot the body as one unit.
  • Periodically re-measure your stance out ( beginners tend to come out of their stance after a couple of pivots)
Happy training , and keep your guard up.
