This weekend, in leiu of our normal Saturday morning conditioning class, we did the Manitou Incline. One mile of distance and 1000 feet of rise.

my legs ach thinking about that run but if I where many many years younger i think I could have enjoyed it

Sounds like a beautiful walk/run, especially once you get to the top!
Yes, it's a very nice thing to say "I have done it..." Doing it, on the other hand, is not so nice : )
I haven't been up Manitou Incline (although I have been to Garden of the Gods, which is beautiful).
I did climb King Arthur's Seat (an extinct volcano) when I was in Edinburgh last summer - it might not be quite as steep; on the other hand, there are no steps past the first 50 feet or so. I've attached a couple of pictures. The first picture is only a few hundred feet along the path. The last one was from about 1/2 of the way to the top.
