Hello again brothers and sisters, it's been a while since I posted, and was thinking nows a good time to go ahead and exchange ideas again. And hopefully I can help some of you guys come up with ideas of things to do for fund raisers for your schools as well.
I am organizing a fund raiser event for a local charity, being hosted at the martial arts school I have been involved with for some time now.
So far, I have the following events planned:
A Kick-a-Thon. The main attraction, pretty standard fund raiser thing most of us are familiar with, right?
A Silent auction. I am currently up to.. over 300 people and businesses contacted, asking if they would like to donate something for a silent auction, with all of the proceeds going to the charity. Figured what the hell, the very worst, they will say No, right? So far, 13 people and businesses have said Yes, so thats pretty good in my book. Signed books from New York Times best selling authors, cds from bands, gift certificates to local businesses, shirts from various tee shirt companies.
The owner of the school recent purchased an MMA cage, so we are discussing picking up a couple of pairs of inflatable boxing gloves, and letting people have a go at each other in the cage, like 5 minutes for $10.
A duck pond for the kids. Oriental Trading company has some cute rubber ducks in karate uniforms for like $5 a dozen. Trying to find some stuffed animals on Craigslist, or I may just hit up the dollar store and see what I can get from there.
I have a couple of friends who can do face painting coming do help for a few hours during the event.
We have a Kung Fu Panda mascot costume, which should entertain the kids a little bit.
The owner of the school is paying for one of the local radio stations to come broadcast live from the event, in theory that will bring a lot of people to the event.
I did invite pretty much every school in the area to the event, but I haven't heard anything from most of them. Granted, I did not tell them the Radio station would be there. I was hoping they would come to support the charity we are raising money for, and not just for free advertising (not that I was going to charge them to come demo their stuff for us and the people who come anyways).
But our guys will be demonstrating our Kung fu style, at least 2 other Kung Fu schools near St. Louis said they would come support their brothers and demonstrate as well.
So what else should I consider doing for the event to help entertain people and any kids who show up?
I was thinking of a small Nerf Archery / Knock the Cans down booth, where the little kids could try knocking cans down for a prize. Archery is still a martial art after all
I will discuss the advertising ideas I have in another post, this one is getting a little long and I want some feedback still from you guys.
