Iron fist results

I would not heat it, heating could cause chemical changes.

A little more on heating it

That’s actually how we used it. A large pot of Dit Da Jow was heated on a burner, and we’d soak the hand being conditioned as hot as we could stand. It seemed to help circulation and recovery. I understand concerns about chemical changes, but in practice, heat was part of the method.

"The “Burning Hand,” was Mr. Long’s signature technique, and he was quite open about teaching it those who wanted to learn it. It was an “internal” specialty, different from “external” pushing power. More a slap than a hit, Mr. Long would sometimes place a phone book on your shoulder and give it one of those “slaps.”

You could feel two things coming through the phone book. The first was a push (the external component) that would set you back a foot or two. That was to be expected, but it wasn’t anything to worry about. It was the second thing that was nasty... a sharp, stinging sensation that penetrated your shoulder.

This second force seemed to follow the more external, first force. It seemed to lag behind. But the external force was then gone in an instant, while the stinging second force stayed -- and grew.

Now, I am not a gullible person, and it was going to take more than a trickle of this second force through a phone book to convince me that this slapping stuff was anything much. And so it was that Mr. Long deflected my punch with a slap…just a little too hard. And as a result, my arm locked out in front of me, as if frozen, while a searing pain moved through the flexor muscle compartment of my forearm.

My jaw clenched shut as I could feel beads of sweat forming on my face. Mr. Long continued to yack away at the other students, unaware of my predicament. I was struggling to breath, actually. I couldn’t move, actually. But out of the corner of my eye, I could see the other students now looking at me with some concern.

For his part, still talking to the group, Mr. Long began pulling back to strike again. He still wasn’t looking in my direction. I tried to retract my arm, but couldn’t move. Then finally, I managed to whimper something out… like “Aaaa!”
I know that sounds dramatic, but that’s what happened.

And lucky for me, it was enough to get Mr. Long to stop talking and turn his head to see that I was in some serious hurt. I would not have been a happy camper had I been hit like that twice.

The next day I had a huge black and blue mark on my forearm, pretty much the size of his palm. But this was not a result of force

#1. That kind of force would have maybe broken a bone, had he hit hard enough, or maybe it would have done nothing, if he hadn’t hit hard enough, but this was something different from force

#2. And call it whatever you like… call it qi, or burning hand, or whatever… it is something you need to personally experience in order to get the idea. And I got the idea."

Is anyone claiming it is a picture of iron fist training?

I’ve seen similar hand damage from overtraining or misunderstanding traditional methods. In burning palm training, often only one hand was conditioned — not the one used for daily interaction. Sometimes the palm thickened, sometimes it looked normal. I had a friend who tained in Hung Gar, he always wore gloves...both hands messed up through training...they looked bad...I guess for him still functional...as mentioned he always wore gloves...

example of iron palm training

note the differences between his hands, trained and untrained

He talks about this is external kung fu, cultivates , 培筋骨皮 (péi jīn gǔ pí) – tendons, bones, and skin

Still, we have no context for that photo. We don’t know if the guy who owns that hand claims it is from training, or could be some kind of nasty skin infection. Or could be completely invented AI image. That photo might have nothing to do with training. We need context and background.

as a note: The bottle thing in the video, my first shifu could do that and he dd not train any iron palm or qi. A few of his students could do it too..... notice the liquid that comes out.... it is called Cavitation

Cavitation is the formation and collapse of vapor-filled bubbles in a liquid due to pressure changes.

I just came across it on line. I have no context or background which is very common for on line "stuff."
Even when context and background is provided there is no guarantee that it is true.

I did a seminar with this guy, Pan Qing Fu. During breaks he sat there hitting that steel plate. He also just tapped me in the head with one of those calluses and I can tell you that light tap hurt

🤔 could be wrong as I understand it.

Cavitation refers to vapor bubbles forming and collapsing in a liquid due to rapid pressure drops — like what happens in turbines or propellers.

What you’re seeing in the bottle demo is actually compression. When the top of the bottle is struck hard, the air inside is rapidly forced downward. Because liquid doesn't compress, the pressure pushes against the bottom of the bottle — often causing it to blow out, especially if the air is sealed in by cupping the opening.

We used to do this with beer bottles — half-filled, strike the top, and keep the air trapped. Good party trick,,,of course one does not waste beer,,, use water....yep, not a demonstration of qi or iron palm.

😂 Funny enough, if the bottle is too full, the force rebounds — the hand takes the hit instead.

Iron fist training is complete!
Does it look like that picture? Is anyone claiming it is a picture of iron fist training? It might just be a picture of some nasty condition someone has. I had trouble finishing breakfast when I saw the picture this morning.
Oh I get it, some people can’t deal with certain sights and odors. If you get lunch in the O.R., it’s 30 minutes long, so you get over that stuff pretty quick.

And it good for what exactly? You can’t even wipe your own *** with that bludgeon for a hand.
Looks like he will need some medical treatment in the near future for that. I can understand toughening up your fist but that is just abusing your body.

I appreciate the disclosure. So we don’t know if anyone is even claiming this came from some kind of toughening practice.
