Can any of you kind folks suggest good exercise routines for a Taekwondo adult practitioner who has just recovered from an avulsion fracture on the foot's fifth metatarsal bone. I'd also welcome suggestions for excercises to strengthen the feet to prevent such fractures.

A colleague of mine is just recovering from the same fracture. I don't think they're going to prescribe physical therapy, though I know some good foot recovery exercises.

First of all, I would avoid standed twisting on that foot for a while.

Put a washcloth on the floor and, with your bare foot, pick up the cloth with your toes.

Sustained toe raises with no weights, slowly and graduating in height, sustained time, and reps will help recover the foot.

When you feel close to normal, walks in the sand would help.

See if you can just get a PT consult for your specific injury and do the exercises they recommend, but do them on both feet for balance of strength, etcetera.

Good luck!
