NAPLES, Fla.
(AP) — Sheriff's officials in southwest Florida say a clerk at a 24-hour food store shot and killed a man who tried to rob her and take her 1-year-old daughter.
Store owner Del Ackerman told the Naples Daily News (http://bit.ly/rnKaJe ) his granddaughter shot the man after he stormed into the store Tuesday afternoon and demanded money and grabbed the stroller that held her baby.
Authorities say 22-year-old Elizabeth Easterly was alone in the store with her 1- and 2-year-old daughters. Collier County Sheriff's spokesman Jamie Mosbach says the man was acting erratically before the incident.
Mosbach says the clerk shot the man as he headed toward the door with the child. He was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries.
The sheriff's department is investigating.

Good for the clerk!!!!

Ditto that. There can be a lot said for the straight and narrow path through life. It is too late for this individual, but, perhaps his actions and the results can be an example to others as a deterrent.

One always hopes. But I would guess too many think that it is OK to just take what you want, or punish those who don't give in to your demands. Mental illness doesn't excuse this type of behavior at the point it gets to that level either. The woman had to protect her children. At least there is one less like that on the streets. I hope neither the clerk nor her two children are overly traumatized.

Self defense includes defending one's own family. Most, if not all, of us, would have done the same.

Lethal force laws in most states allow you to protect yourself or anyone else from serious injury. It doesn`t just have to be a family member. Alot of people don`t realize that.

As a school teacher I`ve often had to give that thought. I don`t think there`s a teacher I`ve worked with who would hesitate to shoot someone endangering the life of a child.

Since Shooting the Clavicle is always an Option for Nonlethal Force.
