The 'water breaks' thread has made me curious as to how long your standard class is at your club. I know black belt classes or advanced classes or specialised classes can go for longer, but how long is your standard week to week class? We train for 1 hour, I did karate as a kid and it, too, was 1 hour classes.

2 hrs always. I don't think I could get things done with anything shorter.

90 minutes, that includes warmup, is how long the TKD classes I trained in were. Current HKD classes are 1 hour, I wouldn't mind them being longer.

Tuesday and Thursday - 90 min
Friday - 2 hr
Saturday - 2 - 4 hr

These are minimum times and classes usually go 15-30 min longer than advertised. Everyone is expected to show up at least 15 min early and stretch. Water breaks are taken as a group or allowed individually as needed.

If Saturday is scheduled for 4 hours there is a 20 min break at the mid way point.

45 for kids
55 minutes to an hour for adults

with good structuring you can leave everything on the floor. Naturally not everything is covered, but that keeps the material fresh over the course of the test cycle:
Start with forms, then move along to more sparring, then recap and refine..

Can I add another question please?

How many times a week do people train?

Our kids have 2 x one hour classes a week with a 2 hour session once a week as well during the school holidays.

Adults sessions are 2-4 hours twice a week plus their own training ( which is military fitness)

Our place is open 6 days a week, plus 2 morning classes for adults.

So if so inclined an adult can play 8 times a week. The instructor does not want to see you more than 3 times though ;)

These are the only 4 classes offered at our school.

So most of the time everyone attends every class. Most also have their own home workout regimen as well to keep them active on Monday & Wednesday and most do little to nothing of a workout on Sunday.

On Tuesdays, the kids class lasts for 1 hour, the adult class is 2 hours and sometimes goes a little past that.

Thursday class is at a different location with different students and only lasts 1 hour.

Our studio has one hour classes, and adults can train five times per week. It is set up in a way that each day has a singular focus after warming up and stretching. I.e.:
Monday - forms
Tuesday - stances and individual techniques
Wednesday - kicking
Thursday - self defense
Saturday - sparring

If I attend black belt class on a friday night, plus my regular 2 classes a week that would be 3 classes a week. These days I am just doing the 2 classes to leave myself room for my own personal fitness regime, which usually involves a lot of jogging to keep fit and i do a lot of form and stretching by myself at home. As a coloured belt i would try and get to as many classes as possible as I was still trying to get my technique right and didnt want to get into bad habits, these days I know what Im doing wrong and find its more productive to work on those things by myself in my spare time and work on new material in class time.

We run about 2 hours for class; I don't know how I'd fit everything into an hour, honestly. Even with little conditioning in class, it's tough at two hours.

1 hour for kids.
We list 1 hour for adults but classes but it really vary as the adult class is the last class of the day and running over does not affect any other class.

Where I train there are two classes both one hour long for training. You have an opportunity to come up to half an hour early for stretching (bonus for all of us over 30), but this is not considered part of the class. There is an advanced class held for high level belts in the club once a week that for an additional fee you can train at, again this only goes for an hour with an opportunity to come in before hand of around half an hour before where no formal instruction is given.
As I was saying to Tez on another thread when I knew nothing at all about TKD and was looking for a place to train I could not find any class in the city that I live in that trained for more then one hour in TKD. Even in other arts, if you look you could find, but the standard seems to be an hour in Australian clubs.

We also have one hour classes, with 8 classes a week available to adult color belts and 1 additional for black belts - all ranks are expected to make at least 2 per week, and encourage to make more. 'Warmup' is generally very brief - we are expected to arrive 15 minutes early to warm up on our own.

Often, I wish the classes were a little longer.
