I hope Byrna can win. I really want to get the pepper balls in Kalif. This is about the best non lethal defensive weapon that you can legally carry with you all the time. Here is the detail description:

Byrna Technologies filed a federal lawsuit in San Diego challenging California's ban on the sale and possession of pepper projectile launchers and chemical-based ammunition. The company argues the restriction violates the Second Amendment, noting that non-lethal weapons like stun guns are already federally protected. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Core Details of the Lawsuit
  • The Legal Challenge: The suit targets a provision in California law (specifically, a 2021 law originally meant to limit chemical agents during protests) that classifies Byrna's pepper projectiles as a form of tear gas, making them illegal to sell or possess.
  • Second Amendment Argument:Byrna claims the ban contradicts common sense by allowing citizens to purchase lethal firearms but prohibiting non-lethal defense tools. The company compares their devices to Tasers, which have received Supreme Court protection as "bearable arms".
    • National Context: Only California and New York maintain a comparable ban on these less-lethal pepper ball weapons. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]

Current Status
  • Pending Litigation: The case is actively making its way through the federal court system, with Byrna pushing to establish a legal precedent for broader access to less-lethal self-defense options.
  • What Remains Legal: While the chemical/pepper rounds are the subject of the lawsuit, Byrna launchers and kinetic (non-chemical) ammunition are still legal to own and purchase in California. [1, 2]
Track updates and read the company's statements directly on the Byrna Technologies official platform, or review the legal scope of the challenge via San Diego Union-Tribune. [1, 2]

Nobody comment? This is the MOST EFFECTIVE non lethal self defense weapon that is LEGAL in the whole US.

This is the best self defense weapon for people that are not willing to spend the time practicing. I know people just laugh and say "why not carry a real gun?".

I know, I carried a real gun for years and I am a good shooter. I stop carrying in the 90s. I started asking myself whether I can live with killing someone and all the trouble entails from law enforcement after killing someone. It's so easy to talk big and macho. People really need to ask themself honestly whether they can live with killing someone.

I am waiting for the outcome of the lawsuit, I will definitely buy one for myself and one for my wife if we can get pepper balls.
