Simple question, does the color of the embroidary text on black belts have any meaning in Korean Taekwondo?

E.g. Does gold mean a person is of a higher rank then say silver
or does white mean that a person of a senior age, and of higher respect

Your thoughts please:angel:

I would say it's probably the personal choice of the instructor. Some schools use a different color thread to denote rank. (eg. 3rd Dan blue thread. 4th Dan gold thread).

There is no standard colors for the WTF or Kukkiwon that I've ever heard.

I have seriously considered doing a subdued embroidery. Black on Black. Just to do it. I wonder if over time the belt would be one color of black and the letters another.

just a thought.

That is interesting to me in that I know several Koreans who have red embroidery.

Chung Yun Sung, 9th Dan - Chung Do Kwan is one example!

That is interesting. Do a google for "writing name in red ink in Korea" and you'll see many references like this one:

RED INK

Red ink is permissible when using a chop
(name seal). Do NOT use red ink when
writing a living person's name, however,
since red is associated with death. Red
ink is used to record a deceased person's
name in the family register and also on
funeral banners to drive off evil spirits.
or

Signing a contract or writing a person’s name in red ink is the worst thing you can do in Korea, since this indicates that the person is deceased.
Perhaps the ones you've seen consider the embroidery different then a written name.
