On this insightful interview, Guro Danny Vedua talks about the origins of Askal Hybrid Balintawak; a Filipino Arnis System of Eskrima which he developed and founded. He speaks about his life as a martial artist and the future of the system

Askal Hybrid Balintawak is a Martial Arts System from three significant words: Askal, Hybrid, and Balintawak. The term Askal, which means "Street Dog" from our local language, is placed as the first word for the group name, because the system has been based on the founder's life where he humbly started from a poor family and has lived a life where street fights and bar fights were common. The term Hybrid is included as the founder has integrated this martial art system with all the martial art systems he had learned in his lifetime. The integration of several martial art systems leads to a series of technique modifications which provides street fight efficacy. The founder believes that the techniques that should be learned should be street-fight effective in the first place. The last term, Balintawak, is placed as the last word for name, because Balintawak was actually the framework of the new Arnis system developed by the founder.

Askal Hybrid Balintawak started when the founder accidentally injured himself during practice. Due to such incident, he vowed to perfect this martial art. In his continuous practice for perfection, he notices the lapses of certain techniques which render useless during an actual street fight. With his conviction to continually develop Arnis, he had to modify certain techniques and had to remove certain techniques which eventually lead to the birth of the Askal Hybrid Balintawak System.
