This story was big last week. Sort of a local boy makes...bad. A local guy was arrested for hacking activities. He grew up in my neck of the woods, glendale heights, Illinois and is a self-described anarchist, communist.

http://abclocal.go.com/wls/story?section=news/iteam&id=8571171

Federal prosecutors have charged Hammond with the December hacking of computers owned by the Texas-based private intelligence gathering firm Stratfor; allegedly stealing the personal data on hundreds of thousands of individual Stratfor clients, including a former U.S. vice president and CIA director.

Bizarre reporting though
"Jeremy Hammond had blonde hair, but the tactics he discussed at a hacking conference in 2005 are the same ones that caused his arrest Tuesday: "Any method of disruption at any cost; any means necessary...let them call us terrorists. I'll still bomb their buildings."

Doesn't say he's a comminist either, I don't think you can be an anarchist AND a communist, the two don't actually go together.

From wikipedia...

The central tendency of anarchism as a mass social movement has been represented by anarcho-communism and anarcho-syndicalism, withindividualist anarchism being primarily a literary phenomenon[SUP][25[/SUP]
[SUP]

It was reported here in chicago that he represented himself as ananarchist, communist.]

Actually, if you look at anarchism and true communism, they are pretty much similar in concept.

Here is an article that mentions the anarchist/communist thing...

http://news.techworld.com/security/...-jeremy-hammond-genius-with-no-brain/?olo=rss

On more than one occasion he talks about his sympathy for left-leaning groups and anarchist organisations, and in one chat, describes himself as an "anarchist communist". Hammond's chats also revealed his links with militant anti-racist groups.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communism

Council communists and non-Marxist libertarian communists and anarcho-communists oppose the ideas of a vanguard party and a transition stage, and advocate for the construction of full communism to begin immediately upon the abolition of capitalism.

Anarchy is the natural extension of libertarian principles. It is antithetical to communism or socialism.

Try the definition of Anarchism. There are different philosophies involved, some lead to the more communist model, while others lead to a more individualistic model. This guy was a lefty commie model guy. He hated captialism, having been influenced by his father who thought that Michael Moore was too conservative.

from wikipedia...

There are many types and traditions of anarchism, not all of which are mutually exclusive.[SUP][13][/SUP] Anarchist schools of thought can differ fundamentally, supporting anything from extreme individualism to complete collectivism.[SUP][2][/SUP] Strains of anarchism have been divided into the categories of social and individualist anarchism or similar dual classifications.[SUP][14][/SUP][SUP][15][/SUP] Anarchism is often considered to be a radical left-wing ideology,[SUP][16][/SUP][SUP][17][/SUP] and much of anarchist economics and anarchist legal philosophy reflect anti-statist interpretations of communism, collectivism, syndicalismor participatory economics. However, anarchism has always included an individualist strain supporting a market economy and private property, or morally unrestrained egoism.[SUP][18][/SUP][SUP][19][/SUP][SUP][20][/SUP] Some individualist anarchists are alsosocialists or communists[SUP][21][/SUP][SUP][22][/SUP] while some anarcho-communists are also individualists.[SUP][23][/SUP][SUP][24[/SUP]

His first stint in prison came from hacking the ProtestWarrior group, which is a conservative group that went to anti-war rallies.[/SUP]

I don't want to derail your thread, Bill, but even so called anarcho-communism shares the universal adherence with the non-aggression principles. A person can always leave the collective, therefore it resembles little more then a voluntary community. Therefore, it's nothing like the forced socialism we have today, where you are forced by fiat and gun to stay in the system. Anyway, who knows what this guy really is. Most of these so called anarcho-commies are the kind to ship people off to re-education camps. Their opposition to war is actually an opposition to other people's war. The Revolution is AOK!!!!

Sorry, makalakumu, hacking other people, stealing their private information and taking their money, or giving their information away is aggressive behavior and though not physically violent, it can really impact other peoples lives. This thread is there to show a hacker from my area was caught, has lefty tendencies and was part of this new domestic terror activity. That's all.

That's him though, you get hackers who just do it because they can or they have right wing tendancies or they just want to see how much money they can make. Hacking isn't a left wing activity, it's a hacking activity. Here, right wing newspapers owned by someone who is right wing Rupert Murdoch have hacked into the accounts of a great many people including the mobile phone of a murdered teenager, the latest is that they've hacked into the phone of a RC priest who has a celebrity parishioner. Emails and phones belonging to a lot of people have been hacked by them, this blond haired kid has nothing on them, he doesn't even rank as an amateur compared to News International.

And I'm derailing your thread, sorry Bill. I attempted to make a side point regarding anarcho-communism. I thought the label was misapplied. Perhaps it's more appropriate to say he's a communist who is willing to break the law.

In all honesty Makalakumu, you can't derail one of my threads. I enjoy seeing where they go once they are started, so no problem with what you posted. I enjoy seeing your posts Makalakumu, even if I disagree with them a lot, well, a real lot of the time. I like the free flow of ideas and conversation.

Sukerkin, I love that bit, and a few others, from the Holy Grail, that is why I put it in my signature after the OWS movement started. Dennis is pretty funny.

I too often feel as if I am being repressed...

:chuckles: As to your last there, BillC, don't we all?

Mind you, in all seriousness, I do reckon we forget just how lucky we are sometimes. A stable government system that, despite all it's faults, generally works to keep society ticking over without us having to risk our lives for it, is a system that is worth preserving (even if it does generally mean that the haves get their way and the have-nots have to make do).
