Dang i love New England …. Another day free of irritants, emails, annoyances and not one single fool had to be suffered. Even my memory is doing better. Spent 30 minutes this afternoon facing the atlantic and just breathing

sadly, it all ends tomorrow…. Maybe i’ll just call in retired Thursday

Do it. You just seem so unhappy in your job, and you’ve been unhappy for a long time. Start a new chapter! :)

Would love to, and It was an actual conversation with Mrs Xue yesterday. But i have to wait till 2027, then the youngest will be done with the undergrad degree, and i have the right amount of time to cover insurance. However the amount of time will be the deciding factor as to the actual date.

I’ve been ill the last few days - high temperature, aching all over and feeling very weak. It’s burning itself out now but in it’s last throes to try and see me off this mortal coil, it finally had me spending a lot of time in the ‘smallest room of the house’ 🙄

Whilst contemplating my dire fluid balance in that lonely room, I was minded of a petition to the Roman deity of the main sewer that ran through the city and which I found myself incanting. It goes like this-

Oh, Cloacina, goddess of this place,
Look upon thy supplicants with a smile upon your face.
Soft and yet cohesive, let their offerings flow,
Neither rashly swift, nor insolently slow.

(Lord Byron, graffiti on a toilet wall)

GI isn't my specialty, but I'm not sure what those circumstances could be. There are conditions that will lead to an incomplete exam, but those are conditions (such as a bowel obstruction) that you're going to need to fix. I cannot think of any circumstances in which Cologuard would be better than even an incomplete colonoscopy.
If they'll actually do the Colorguard or other "lab test" rather than avoid the colonoscopy along the way?

I was listening to something on the radio where a GI doc mentioned that while a colonscopy is the gold standard and has the advantage of being able to literally nip polyps in the bud or deal with other issues while they're already there... anything is better than doing nothing.

Oops is also not a good thing to hear from a pilot during a flight or from an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Specialist doing his job.
Nah, oops from a bomb tech isn't a big deal. Screaming "That's gonna be a problem..." is rather concerning... "Get the hell out of my way!" as they run... Now THAT's a big deal!

Every once in a while I get reminded of that... I make a comment somewhere with folks who aren't cops and get looks like "what is wrong with you?!"
Going from hospitals and substance abuse to IT, I've had to do a lot of work adjusting what I say out loud. Got a lot of looks when I'd share 'normal' stories and jokes at first.

Sure, but that's "won't" rather than "can't".

Well since we were talking colonoscopy, a timely third option may be coming soon. Blood tests.

CONCLUSIONS

In an average-risk screening population, this cfDNA blood-based test had 83% sensitivity for colorectal cancer, 90% specificity for advanced neoplasia, and 13% sensitivity for advanced precancerous lesions. (Funded by Guardant Health; ECLIPSE ClinicalTrials.gov number, NCT04136002. opens in new tab.)
So, pretty good for early cancer detection. Not so good for detecting pre cancer polyps. Of course, I will defer to the experts.

It appears the hope is that more people will be screened because they don’t like the idea of a colonoscopy.

Just a point of reference, looking at me, I will never be mistaken for a Chinese person....but I was reminded yesterday, after we drove form Maine to Boston Chinatown for morning Dim Sum..... I am much more relaxed and comfortable in Chinatown in a Dim sum restaurant, tea house or bakery in Chinatown, than I am in Starbucks, and American restaurant, or my office for that matter.....

One thing I forgot I liked about working from home - being able to take breaks every hour or so and do a quick 5 minute workout. Doing that in the office would get a lot of looks, but at home it helps me stay energized throughout the day
hmmm now there is a thought..... I could do that AT work and maybe they'd stay the heck away from me.... especially if I went back to the old Sanda training where I hit walls :D

Confession time...I hate waking up early, and it takes me a bit to get mentally ready. At my first clinic, I had a group therapy session that started at 8AM, and I discovered very quickly I was not sharp enough to perform group therapy for substance abusers that early.

When training Fu Jow Pai, while mostly an external style, I did learn some internal forms. So in the morning, I'd go to a parking lot nearby, and go through them for 15 - 30 minutes before going to work, so I'd be in the right mindset for my day-starting group therapy session. Over the couple years, I had multiple people come up to me and mention they saw me doing weird kung fu stuff when they got off the bus. Never stopped, never changed location, and honestly I think it humanized me to them a bit when I'd use that as an example of managing emotions.
