Well, I had two gumdo classes two days apart. Friday, I did the regular night class, plus about an hour of private instruction. I put the final polish on Ssang Soo #10, which I had only learned a week before AND it is an even numbered form (that means its harder....at least I think the even ones are harder). Other than that, standard class, basic cutting, basic movements, some form work, chuk pal gum. Much fun as usual.
So then, I decided that since I'm not sure when the next time I'll be in class will be, I went to tonight's 2 hour black belt class. WELL....WOW. That's the most exhausted I've been at the end of a Martial Arts class since Korea. 2 hours solid and we did EVERYTHING. Including teaching me a new form. Ssang soo #11 and WOW is it easy. learned it all in one night. Of course, that only means that I know the movements, it needs a lot of polishing and work to get it concrete in there. Plus, there's a spin in there that I'm not too confident about yet. ALSO, learned Chuk pal gum #12 again. Let's hope I don't forget it AGAIN. This memory thing sucks!
So the part that I hate came also....Gyuk gums. Wow.....how can I possibly forget them EVERY TIME. I mean, I don't practice them, sure....and we don't do them often, but how can I be that dense?? For some reason I just have a hard time with the spin left/spin right thing and it makes me feel real dumb when I'm in a class with all black belts and basically learning them for the first time. Even though I've done them a few times. SO, the plan is to review my video, write them out and practice them HARD between now and the next class. If I can catch up on those, I almost have all of the curriculum except forms and partner drills. I've got all of the basic movements, all of the chuk pal gums, up to #11 of the forms, and all of the basic cutting. So now, just have the gyuk gums and partner drills and I'm in cleaning mode until its time to test!
Which is my other concern, not only do I need to know the stuff, but I need to know it well enough to TEACH by my test....
OH YEAH! On another Gumdo note. I'm not sure if I mentioned this, but I might be getting a saegum instead of the kagum that I had!!! Apparently the sizes were marked wrong and my kagum was too short, so Master Laura is switching them out, but she may just get me a Sae gum!!!! You know what that means.....people get to throw fruit at my head!
