12-19-2009 11:25 PM:So that's why the guy was a five-to-one favorite. Muhammed "King Mo" Lawal, who just started fighting mixed martial arts in the last 14 months, took out veteran heavyweight Mike Whitehead in just over three minutes. King Mo let Whitehead do most of the work at the start of the fight waiting for the big counterstrike. Whitehead got lazy on an inside leg kick and King Mo responded with a super-quick combination. Lawal dropped Whitehead with a right and then jumped on top of the downed fighter where he landed another right that knocked Whitehead out cold at 3:03 of the first.
"He was good [but] he was saying I have no experience. He made it a fight."
The win was especially impressive considering Whitehead came in with 30 pro fights under his belt and Lawal was giving away 43 pounds to the 261 pound Whitehead.
Unfortunately for Whitehead, his achilles heel has been starting slow. He wasn't very aggressive and didn't impose his size on Lawal in the first two minutes. He allowed King Mo to hold his hands at his side and get into a rythym.
When asked if he wanted to stay at heavyweight, Lawal (6-0) said he's an "any weight" which has to be music to Strikeforce's ears. He's marketable and appears to be able to fight at middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight.
