What is the proper term for someone who trains in Tae Kwon Do? I'm not sure I've ever known.

Folks in Karate are Karateka, what are we called?

I'm sorry, its been a long day:)

I thought I was a Taekwondoist but Miles is more in tune with National/International governing bodies so he says Taekwondoin. I'll go with that. TW

Yes, if you train in Taekwondo, you are a Taekwondoin. If in Hapkido, you are a Hapkidoin. Sort of a "when in Rome" thing.

I think it's whatever floats your boat. I've heard us called any of the above... Well, except for bung holes/ bung holists. Someone may have been called that too, somewhere a long the way, though ;) .

What about Taekwondo player? I've heard that before - quite a lot actually.

As have I, but only used in referencing a sparring competitor.

I've heard it too. Like Judo player. I don't like that one. I've been doing this a long time. The way I train, I don't play.:ultracool

Valid point! As a non-practitioner, I'm still a great fan of your art. It's a pity you poor TKD practitioners have to defend the viability of your fine art in the face of its awful "modernisation". TKD when worked by someone who knows the true undiluted form is one helluva strong, fast and frightening art!

Anyway, I've never been lucky enough to study TKD but had cause to think on this question myself recently. I ran searches on google for results for each of the suffixes. Hey, I'm no statistician so this is more of an answer by concensus and just for laughs. And results were in all languages so I noticed a lot from the bottom two were not in english. So what does that prove in the end? Nuthin. AT. ALL. :) But fwiw:
TaeKwonDo-er 117
TaeKwonDo-practitioner 431
TaeKwonDo-player 715
TaeKwonDo-ist 850
TaeKwonDo-in 12800
TaeKwonDo-ka 20900
Actually there are 500 for "TaeKwonDo guy"! I don't know, but maybe that wouldn't be so bad when listed as a profession on all your kids' birth certificates :)

Actually, Jenna, this proves beyond all doubt that I'm one of the 850 that knows the correct answer and the other 34,963 are all wrong. See? Check the evidence. It's right there...HA!
