Has anyone else enjoyed this Netflix series. Itās essentially a much better āSquid Gameā set in the Meiji era where the newly abolished samurai are trying to eke out an existence where they are no longer relevant (this seems to be a rich vein for Samurai films). Its production values are very high, the acting is good and the swordplay is swashbuckling to say the least. Youāll all be wanting a wooden name tag after watching it!
What surprised me was when watching the English version, it seemed the actors were speaking perfect (American) English; their lips moving in complete synchrony with the audio. No 70s Hong Kong Kung Fu lip movement/dialogue discrepancy here. I switched to the āJapanese with English subtitlesā when the American accents quickly began grating on me (everyone knows dubbing should be in His Majestyās English
) and lo! Their lips were in perfect synchrony with the Japanese dialogue! I can only suppose all the actors had to learned perfect English when they passed the auditions and then Netflix filmed two completely identical versions of the series for each audience. What a laborious task but admirable task and amazing attention to detail.
