While the 2000 S&W sellout agreement that the Thompkins owners struck with the Clinton administration has long been dead, it never hurts to go back and read about it:

I still get headaches thinking about what could have been, had Albert Gore taken the presidency, and continued the extortion of the firearms industry.
Basically, S&W, along with the Clinton administration, tried to twist the arms of every firearms company, to fall in line with this agreement. In the end, though, nobody else went along, and I commend Beretta, Browning, and Glock for basically telling the HUD folks of the Clinton administration, to get lost.
Furthermore, I am also grateful, that the new owners of S&W (Saf-T-Hammer) declared that the former sell-out agreement was null and void.
