Shocking News Story

I know that what we find shocking is partly cultural and partly what we have been 'acclimated' to but I found this news story to be horrifying for the barbaric cultural background that it illuminates:

India is becoming a player on the world economic stage, if it were up to me it's trading partners should be putting extreme pressure on them to put their house in order if they want to continue to do business.

It's not just India.

Educate and emancipate women and the issue of poverty in the world will decrease sharply. Poverty goes down, crime goes down, education goes up and the demands for real democracy go up.

Much of the world is still living in essentially the middle ages economically, socially and religiously.
