Schools in my area

Knowing what schools are in my area would really help me to decide on what style I'm going to study. I'm moving in less than two weeks. When I do, my new location will be Huntsville, AL. What's the best way to find all the schools that are in that area? I've done basic google searches, but I've later found out that such searches on not very effective or accurate. Is there another means by which I could do a more accurate search? MA specific search engines? Anything?

I'm in the same dilema in Vegas. The best conclusion I've come to is, just start hittin' the trail when you get there. Even the school I'm at now isn't on any map. Often, the best ones aren't.

YOu can even put an account on Myspace and just put down that you are going to live in huntsville do a search and there may be a school on there, I know that it is free advertisement and I don't have the money to spend so that is where I advertise

I'm in the same boat. Moving in 5-8 weeks. Totally stressing over new school hunting.

Even the school I'm at now isn't on any map.
Mine too.

That's what makes it so hard too. *sigh*

Find a local martial arts supply store when you get there--one that is free-standing, not part of a martial arts school. They will know everyone in town, including those who teach out of their garages.

In addition to the Yellow Pages, check the free weekly newspapers for those with smaller advertising budgets.

Your best bet, like Gemini said, is to start pounding the pavement when you get there. Or get a hold of a phone book from the area, and look in there or see below. Type in the town, state, and martial arts.

arnisador had a great idea, too. I never thought about that.

One great link I have been using to help me locate a school is www.dojolocator.com . With it I was able to pull up tons of schools that weren't showing up with a regular google search. Good luck finding a new school! :)

Whoa! Even my school was on there. The extent of our advertising is a little (and I mean little) 2 line Yellow pages listing. Nice link!

I have to go with the others that suggested the yellow pages.

What art are you looking for? Perhaps someone on here may have some suggestions.

Good luck on your search.
