Sarah Palin came in at the #2 spot on the usa today poll of influential women, or something along those lines. It is interesting considering the hatchet job she has recieved since she first came to the wider publics attention. It is also interesting because #1 was hillary clinton. This is the woman who led the task forces involved in silencing the many women her husband was having affairs with and the many women he was forcing himself on, against their will. She essentially protected a serial, sexual predator all in the name of achieving and keeping political power. That is some #1 candidate for you.

It’s a popularity contest, it means nothing, unless its election day.

The popularity contest aspect is what amazes me. Hillary strong armed vulnerable women all for the sake of political power for herself and she is still looked up to by a lot of women. She was a goon for a sexual predator. How does she have any credibility for anything?

I'd be interested in knowing how the poll was conducted and what demographic was addressed.

Of course, one thing to keep at the forefront of your mind is that when questioned on such things most people invariably come up with the name of someone they've heard of recently. Not really a definitive data-collection method on the whole.

Yes Sukerkin, people in the forefront of peoples minds win these polls, but the slamming of Palin for so long makes it more interesting that she beat out someone like Oprah, and only came in second place to Hillary. You would think that the attacks would have reduced her name recognition for the purposes of a popularity contest.

That takes a bit of time, billchiak. An example is Jordan over here in Britain. For a long time she rode the crest of a wave of publicity, a great deal of it 'bad'. It is only of late that the tide of opinion turned away from her.

As with Palin, there are those that still cling, fan-boy/girl like to whatever fantasy they concocted about her. But the fact remains, in both cases, they are fairly poor examples of human beings when held against the 'decenct' yardstick. Neither would be welcome over my threshold ... no matter how much fame or money they have.

If you realized how little people thought of you, you wouldn't care what they thought of you. I think she has a grip on the public.

I think she has a grip on the public.

A death grip. But only on a smaller portion of the public - much less than a majority. Her negatives are higher than her positives among the public in every poll that tests it over the last several years. Her favor/disfavor rate is 33/58...in Alaska. The only reliable demographic group that has a higher favor than disfavor are Republicans. She would do well to keep this fact in mind if she is contemplating a 2012 run. The public really doesn't like her - at all.

Yeah, we'll see about that. She smart and knows how to get what she wants. She is going to be a player in politics for a long time and it will be interesting to watch how she deals with it.

If she is (a player in politics) then that says rather more about other people than her, sad to say.

Our equivalent over here in Blighty is not so pretty, which is probably why he doesn't get so many votes (or maybe we have more sense?) - it's Nick Griffin of the BNP. That party might fester in politics a long time but that is far from a good thing.
