Former call girl opens up about the industry

In light of the recent NY Governor scandal, the Today show decided to interview a former prostitute! It is actually very interesting....

Natalie McLennan, a native of Montreal, was a 24-year-old aspiring actress in 2004 when she started working for NY Confidential, a top-end escort service in New York City. Billed as “New York’s No. 1 escort,” she was featured on the cover of New York magazine in 2005, and her revelations in the accompanying article led prosecutors to arrest her for prostitution and money laundering, for which she spent 26 days in Rikers Island jail (“Three more days than Paris Hilton!” she notes) before accepting a plea bargain.

Thoughts? I was shocked not only by how much they made, but how much had to be surrendered to "agency" and the booking agent.

While in college and working in a Dorm as a Cook and Head Waiter. I liked the young woman who would ran the cash register. Well the guys in the back convinced me to finally ask her out. (* She was such a knock out and girl next door that I figured Ihad no chance. *) I asked her out and she was surprised. She asked what I had in mind. I said maybe go get a Pizza and catch a movie? She then asked if I was serious. I told her yes. She smiled that smile that I knew would be a no. She then said let me check my schedule. She said between pre-med and other engagements she did ntohave much time.

I went to the back and the guys were all laughing. I asked why. They asked what happened. I explained, they were surpised. They then explained to me that she was an escort and that she got $300 an hour for a dinner date.

To her credit she would make plans with me for about 4 weeks out and then have to cancel as something would come up. I just stopped trying as I knew I was not in the same league as her.

That is my story and connection with the industry.

Q: Was there anything you wouldn’t do?
A: I’m not comfortable answering that, partly because my mom’s going to read this. But there were definitely boundaries.

Good idea, wouldn't want mom to think poorly of you.

You know, I had a weird thought. Just how hidden is prostitution from everyone? Most people see the Streetrat Ho, but do you really have any idea what levels and types of escorts and services are really out there? Perhaps the money for sex industry is happening right outside your door? Maybe we just have no idea what we are looking at?

Sounds like you were in a better league if you ask me......

I've often wondered that. You see advertisements for escort services fairly often, is this just a front for prostitution or it is really just paying for the company of a woman? Maybe I'm just naive, but I have always wondered how these agencies survive in a society where prostitution is illegal and fairly looked down upon. I have heard the joke that the only difference is that an escort can say no.

For an illegal practice, it just seems to be fairly available and prolific.

The really successful ones pay off the police force. Once they own the police force, they can get away with a LOT more. This happened in a city called Shively near Louisville, when I was a kid. There were some people where were connected and they got away with murder (at least that's what I heard) -- in any event, they most certainly got away with prostitution.

And, if you have people in Wall Street that want something done, they are above the law, for all intents and purposes. Every once in a while one may get busted, but generally speaking, they are above the law.

But that is on the high end of the scale, of course. They are the true elite -- they can outsource their self-defense, hahaha!

I see your point. It was nothing that changed my life. It is a story I have that I share. In hopes that people will understand that people make choices for the future, that others may not have made.

She did tell me that she should have enough saved up so that she would not have to work while in Med School.

She was not for me. I chooose not to judge her on thsoe actions. So, I am not sure I could say better. But I do understand how someone else could say better. So this does not invalidate your point, only trying to express miine.

I have had discussions that many women sell themselves for security or stability. Is this not a business transaction with the result being sex and possibly children. the difference is that in this method the woman and children have legal rights.
