-German people are great! Very nice people! Loved the food!
-the Brits were also very nice and hospitable!
-the Turks were also very nice! Curious about the USA! TKD is popular in Turkey!
-these were the bulk of people I spoke with on this trip.
-the officials from the ETU were very approachable and curious about the state of TKD in the USA!
-Sport TKD in the USA is behind Europe by at least 2 maybe 3 years!
-it is all lead leg in Europe!!!Head Hunting!
-AAU won three medals 1 silver and 2 bronze!!!
-no other athletes medaled from USA!
-not really an open tournament! The number of athletes are limited to 1200! They do reject people! In the Sr division is all National Teams or Regional Teams...Servet Tazegal fought for Barvaria apparently he is a Turk that lives in Germany!
-Kym had great fight with Caroline Fisher from GBR. She is the number 16 ranked female bantam weight in the World...Kym was in the lead for over half the fight. Lost on a head kick! In the end it was great experience! Although she lost in the quarterfinals it is a great confidence boost....this the 5th fighter she has fought in the top 20 and it is clear that from a skill level she is as good as the top people. She can compete with the best in the world....now she has to learn how to beat the best people! @ 18she is in a good spot another 3 to 4 years of experience and she will be there!

Good to hear that Kym did well, good for her. When you say we are behind in the US by 2 to 3 years what does that mean? Is that org wise or athlete based?

Both...org and athlete!

Our athltets are great... but the strategy we are using is not what is going to win internationally!!!!!today!!!!

Our org!!!! The USAT does not bring that stuff back!!!!

The AAU by bringing athletes toeurope is helping but we need more!

We need as an org... USAT to bring athletes to Europe...developmental athletes....

The AAU does this... many athletes in the US have gotten ther first international experience thru AAU...

We are behind because the USAT has been run by people whom only care about their personal athletes and not the TKD athletes as a whole!

I think thus is going to change under new leadership so based on the advice of our coach we will start to compete in USAT again thus year!!!

Cool that you had a good time over here!

According to the result sheets Servet started for the Turkish National Team:

Individual results:

Team results:

Result by nations:

The National and also regional teams were the most successful, yet there was also a good share of athletes who were starting for their clubs. The structure here in Germany is: DTU/National Team -> 16 state teams -> hundreds of clubs/schools.

Servet Tazegül was born, grew up and still lives in Germany. The German National Team has actually lots of members with a foreign backgroud with most of them being of Turkish origin. I don't know why exactly, but probably because of some political ******** Servet didn't make it into the German national team and then decided to go for the Turkish team. Lots of Turks in Germany have dual citizenship. I heard that some of the decision makers in the German National TKD Association didn't like Servet's style of fighting and said that he'd never be successful with all his spinning. Not sure if that's true, but if it is he proved them wrong.

If you look on utube you will see Servet being coach by a BTU Coach...he may have signed up under Turkey but was not coached by them and he spent most of his time with the Bavarian Team....in my daughters division -53 the gold medalist from Australia signed up for her club but is on the Australian National Team same for Caroline Fisher fought for a club but is on the GBR National Team...

The AAU NATIONAL TEAM had a fighter from Niger...who signed up for Niger so it would not show as medal for AAU...
He is Partice Remarcks student!

It was Caroline Marton probably the Top female TKD fighter in Australia!!!

She fought for a club no other Aussie of note!!!

Do you mean Carmen marton? I think she is our top female fighter and her husband is our top male fighter from memory.

Her sister Caroline Marton is also considered one of the best female fighters in Austrailia...see link

Carmen is in another weight class....

I should have said one of the best!

As you can see she represented Austrailia in the World Olympic Qualification tournament (Baku/Oceana)
