North American Versus The World

How many North American martial artists here on MT have had the opportunity to study abroad?

What art / style did you study? How does it compare with what is taught here in North America?

No one? Really? Wow.

So the technique we teach is North American now, with little Eastern influence?

It's not so much "what" is taught, it more "how" it was taught. Old school, even here in the U.S., many years ago was just about the same as when someone trained abroad. The training mindset was "pain". Even the military used that training technique for many years. Now that were more civilized - here in the U.S. or should that really be legalized :idunno: have things changed.

One can say that in the beginning, Americans were not taught all the techniques, but thru the years I think we have formulated them for ourselves, but the early training was the same.
