No. I took Fred King's Mo Duk Pai kung fu for a year or so under the late Dr. Charles Blodgett and studied Tai Chi for a year until my instructor moved to Chicago in January of this year. It's more a general interest--more than anything an academic interest in how kung fu influenced Okinawan karate, of which I studied many styles over many years. The styles that emphasize phoenix-eye fist, like Phoenix-Eye, Pangainoon, and Bak Mei, especially interest me.
