As was stated before there is no best or better style for fighting. For someone to be a compatent fighter ,they must already have some skill before learning martial arts. Martial arts training helps alot ,but you adapt the techniques to your personal fighting style. Not trying to make your style fit the techniques.

I studied Hung Gar for about a year, was sort of a transition, my Kenpo Sifu had passed away, and I could not find another Kenpo teacher within my area for a while, thus I took up Hung Gar Kung fu through a very close friend of mine that still practices this system. My buddy is an excellent fighter, he is very well prepared. I really love sparring with him, because I know I am going to get a good challenge, and I am not talking about pt fighting or any other b/s like that, I am talking about going all at it. They seem to be very close quarter which I would find practical anyway. I guess it also depends on how good an instructor you get. His instructor is phenomenal.
