I start with the basics, the h,w,d and weight distribution of stances, then work up to blocks (conceptual box, body alignment, structural issues, etc..). I don't get into marriage of gravity, backup mass, torque, borrowed force, etc, until the first couple of techniques and even then I work on the mechanics of the process (the how) while slowly feeding them the concepts (the why) that go with each action and I seldom just let it rip. Also after we've done a technique for a while I'll have them talk me through it while they do it on me. What is being cancelled, what power principles are being used, and what concepts are being brought into play. It all reads so well, but it is a slow process. Even for those with mulitple black belts in other systems, probably more so, because they have to unlearn ingrained habits.
