A warrior fell ill, and his doctor told him, ‘You do not have long.’ From his sickbed, he called his disciples and spoke to each of them in turn. His words were not heavy, like a formal will. They were the same as his everyday teachings. ‘Even when death approaches, what one has to say does not change,’ he told them. ‘That is the warrior’s way.’ Then he peacefully breathed his last.
