Good History Books on Korea

Try "The History of Korea" by Woo-Keun Han. It's a 500 page book from the earliest times up through Syng Man Rhee's presidency. Published in 1970.

I just received as a b-day gift to myself Epistolary Korea: Letters in Communicative Space of the Chosun by Kim, Jae-hyun. I started reading it last night, but I will wait until a couple other books I order arrive as this one talks about specific time periods so I would like to know more about them before reading more. I also ordered Korean History Old and New by Lee, Ki-baek on the way as well as Sources of Korean Tradition Vol. 1 by Ch'oe, Yang-ho. I will add the one you recommended to my list as well. Thank you.
