If Strikeforce has any luck avoiding the recent injury bug that seems to have run rampant in mixed martial arts, its next card is stacked with some excellent fights. CEO Scott Coker confirmed that Nick Diaz will fight DREAM welterweight champ Marius Zaromskis for the Strikeforce 170 title in the main event on Jan. 30 in Sunrise, Fla. Leading into that five-round fight will be another five rounder between 145-pound female champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos defending against Marloes Koenen. Remember it was less than a year ago that women's fighting finally move to three, five-minute rounds. Now the fight could max out at 25 minutes.

Pro wrestler Bobby Lashley will make his Strikeforce debut as well as 46-year-old NFL legend Herschel Walker. Also fighting on the card is MMA and kickboxing veteran Melvin Manhoef. Coker is hoping to line up former Strikeforce middleweight champ Robbie Lawler to face Manhoef in that fight. Lawler had his fight on tonight's Strikeforce: Evolution card canceled five days ago when Trevor Prangley had to back out with a knee injury. Lawler is apprehensive about taking a fight in late January. His pregnant wife is due in early February. Coker also said that he hopes to have welterweight contender Jay Hieron on the card. Earlier in the day, he mentioned Joe Riggs as a possible opponent.

The late January date in South Florida is an interesting choice. It's the same weekend as the NFL's Pro Bowl. The Super Bowl combatants will arrive on Jan. 31. All of that means a ton of traditional media will be on hand for the NFL festivities. There may be more than a few writers plus radio and television folks who'll want to watch the Walker fight.
