Anyone Know of Any Famous Photogs?

For my end of term paper in my History of Photography class, I have to either:

1. Compare/contrast the life's work or two photographers

or

2. Choose two photographers and take my own pictures that are similar to theirs.

I'd rather do number 2, as I like to take mainly landscape photos. Does anyone know of some photographers that I (an amateur) could use as inspiration?

Any help would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Oh and I'm stuck in Illinois so photographers who take awesome pictures of mountains won't cut it.

Thanks!

Ross Halfin, Sally Mann, Charles Lutwdige Dodson, Helmut Newton, Art Wolfe, Leni Riefenstahl, Ansel Adams, Robert Maplethorpe, Mary Ellen Mark, Andrew Prokos, Carlos Tarrats, Walter Astrada, Man Ray, Edgar Martins

Do they have to be American photographers, wushu?

Ansel Adams is the standout American photogprapher, particularly for social-biographical work. Maybe contrasting him with a later, British, photographer like Paul Graham would be interesting?

I'm pretty sure nationality is not a limiting factor.

Thanks for that suggestion. If all else fails, I'll write a paper, even though I don't envy doing so.

Oooh oooh I know Bob Hubbard in person and cave photographers, Jerry Wallace, David Burnelle, Nathan Williams and Brandon Kowallis. :D

Ansel Adams? Ain't that the beer brewing guy I see on TV all the time? ;)

Good luck. I don't envy you at all.
