You don't have an ankle, Doctor's attorney

I've actually seen this kind of wrangling over these defns. before...podiatrists' scope-of-practice varies considerably by state. They always want to expand it! Frankly, the ankle is complicated, ISTM, and the physicians may have a point--it at least requires specific study.

Well that's like saying you can't have a hand specialist operate on your carpal tunnel because it involves the arm. The same argument could be had since the "wrist" is the collection of bones all coming together for that joint.

Hm.

I think I'd want ANYONE operating on me to have been through medical school ... at least to some degree.

For all that this is about the legal definition of the ankle, it looks a lot like a blow up over whether or not podiatrists are real doctors or not. It could get very unpleasant before its over, and it could get very bad for anyone who has an injury to the ankle, especially from an insurance point of view.
