As you train, you will naturally advance. As you advance, newer students will emulate you. Keep in mind that you are an example, and thus, an instructor, as you train.

Those whom you know who are not martial artists will take some of their understanding and their general feelings about martial arts from what they see in you. Remember that you represent martial arts to others.
 
Excellent point, Bill. It is way to easy to get caught up in the macho thing and focus on the techniques while forgetting the tenants of honor, integrity and humility of which are caught rather then taught.

This is very well stated. The best leadership is leadership by example.
