I'm in Maryland vear near Washington DC, not far from Baltimore, and I'm trying to find if there are any nearby tournaments; here or northern Virginia

Check out the USAT website for GM John Holloway's school: Gentle East. He holds tournaments in your area.

Your school should get packages from tournaments they've previously attended. Check with them if you haven't done so already. Also, not sure if you have a state association as NY and NJ do, but if so, that would also be a great source. BTW, you not being far from south Jersey, I know they support a heavy schedule down there in the spring.
