The reference to IPv6 kind of interested me. While working at a U.S. govt agency a little over 3 years ago, we implemented IPv6 at a branch facility as a pilot for the govt. mandate that IPv6 be implemented by a particular date (I think it is July of next year). It did cost money...but we were able to have IPv6 and IPv4 run in parallel with one another with a few exceptions. I would have thought that would have become more compatible with one another by now...but I guess I am wrong.

Yes remember what a disaster THAT was? :)

Well, the thing is, a lot of time and money went into making sure it wasn't a disaster.

But it was a different kind of problem, then it was "I need my systems fixed or my systems could die", now it is "we need to fix the system or someone else might not be able to get online, I already am though so its their problem, not mine"

An exchange we just had here at work: I won't tell you which one I am.

"Wow, this is like the Y2K of our generation."
"Wasn't Y2K the Y2K of our generation?"
"Oh yeah, I guess it was....so this is like....ummm....Y2K2!"
"Shut up."

Actually the next big computer date issue will be a lot sooner then that:

This one might even beat out Y2K, but because it's not as round of a number it won't get any where near the amount of press and doomsday predictions.
