So what makes san shou a "kung fu style", i mean isn't it pretty much just kickboxing with some throws and takedowns? I'm not trying to bash it or anyhting cuz man i love San Shou

Basically, your correct. What makes people look at it as a kung fu style is that it was developed in China. Most San Shou fights have little pure CMA principles in them and they use gear which also limits CMA techniques.
I agree with you though, man I enjoy it. Its more of a sport than anything else, but it sure is fun!

I tend to agree. I caught it on once on espn2 late at night. That's the only time I've seen san shou and it was real cool.

It's not really kung fu, but then, even that is a misnomer for traditional Chinese styles. I agree that it's called kung fu only because of its country of origin.

I have to say that I never even heard of it until I saw it on espn & I think it's pretty neat . Like origionally stated , it's like kick boxing with throws & takdowns . I like how it covers most of the fighting ranges , & it helps to develope trapping range & grappling range skills . Definatly a good way to develope multiple skills against resisting opponants , in a real fighting environment .

Every san shou bout I've ever seen on ESPN (3 or 4 different fights) was Cung Le vs. Somebody Who Didn't Seem to Understand the Rule of San Shou.

Now, that said, isn't there a chinese wrestling style with a similar name as the kick-boxing sport?? Mayeb that is what was meant?

Edit : I found it

"shou shu" http://mooresshoushu.com/ "Da Shifu Al Moore" who apparently learned Tracy's Kenpo? http://www.neweramartialarts.com/moores_karate/

I think that they understand the rules , but Cung Le is just way better than anybody he ever fights .

I agree. Maybe the only reason they play him on espn is because.... well maybe he might be the only one worth while :idunno: . I'm just taking a guess as it is just my opinion. I seen one of his bouts and that's all. He did look great. :asian:
