No Burping Rule?

While boxing is my main interest, I am following an app for that & videos, I decided to check around for self defense classes.
I found out we have a Carlson Gracie Ju Jitsu place nearby. They have a great self defense class 3 times a week. It's on my list to check out. The owner is a black belt in Carlson Gracie style & various other martial arts. He came back & opened his dojo a few years ago. He grew up here.
I researched some more and found that we have a new Gracie Ju Jitsu place too. Just opened this summer. I know a little bit about the rivalry between both groups. I was going to check this place out until I realized there's a NO BURPING rule. I was shocked, then I started laughing. This is a stupid rule. Burping is a natural bodily function. You can't always control it. The owner trained under Royler.
I have never seen a NO BURPING rule anywhere. I understand the whole be quiet, pay attention, don't interrupt, follow commands (instructions & directions), be respectful, etc.

I am tempted to drink a can of coke & walk in there...😆
He's new here, maybe he'll learn & change it.

I think the objection is perhaps to the idiotic habit, many men enjoy, of stretching out their neck, pointing their mouth up at 45 degrees in the air and belching at high volume followed by a weird smirk of what appears to be pride. A discreet, almost silent, burp without drawing attention to it, is acceptable.

Every wouldbe gentleman should have a copy of this book, placed in their Christmas stocking.

Interestingly the noise of a burp is produced by air being blow across the pharyngeus muscles of the throat. In response, they vibrate at low frequency. It’s the technique that those who’ve suffered a laryngectomy use to produce that monotone Darlek voice you might’ve heard.

Have you asked the instructor about the reasons behind that rule? It may be an inside joke, or it may exclusively refer to breaches of good manners (so natural burping would be ok).

P.S.: it's ok to use an app and videos if you're interested in a martial art but please keep in mind that you cannot learn boxing from that alone.

I haven't asked the instructor.
As far as the boxing at home with an app & videos, I'd rather do it this way for three reasons:
1. It's fun. I don't want to lose that part.
2. It's a nice workout.
3. My dog cracks me up during a session. She'll get in between me & the free standing heavyweight bag and start boxing with me. And continues after my session is done. She's not a Boxer but an American Staffordshire mix.

That sounds a lot like a joke poking fun at another instructor or long-time student for burping at an inopportune time. I doubt they expect people to think too much into it.

If that's your only hangup, check the school out, and ask. They'll probably laugh and tell you the story.
