Man's penis amputated following misdiagnosis

Published: 29 Dec 10 09:10 CET The Local.SE EXCERPT:

A Swedish man was forced to have his penis amputated after waiting more than a year to learn he had cancer.

The man, who is in his sixties, first visited a local clinic in Blekinge in southern Sweden in September 2009 for treatment of a urinary tract infection, the local Blekinge Läns Tidning (BLT) reported.

When he returned in March 2010 complaining of foreskin irritation, the doctor on duty at the time diagnosed the problem as a simple case of inflammation.

After three weeks passed without the prescribed treatment alleviating the man’s condition, he was instructed to seek further treatment at Blekinge Hospital.

But it took five months before he was able to schedule an appointment at the hospital.

When he finally met with doctors at the hospital, the man was informed he had cancer and his penis would have to be removed.

Hey, he didn't have to pay for the operation did he? That's a heck of a deal. Here in the good 'ol USA it cost's a fortune to get rid of a dick. Or don't you follow politics?

You'll note, I said rousing, and not arousing... :D

That sounds pretty typical to me. Doctors always go with the simplest solution first, often ignoring anything else. I've been to several doctors who wouldn't even discuss whatever condition brought me in the door, sometimes even literally telling me to "get over it."

Five months is a long time to wait for an appointment, but privatized insurance likes to play the waiting game here too. Obviously I'm not defending the delays, but I don't think it's as political a question as some might make it out to be.

jeez, as if using that is a good enough reason to condemn more socialized medicine. Guess what, medical errors happen everywhere! Got nothing to do with socialism!

When I transferred within my own company across country, my insurance provider changed. The new one said I had to wait 6 months before they would pay for basic bloodwork, that they wouldn't cover any tests until the new year rolled around because I wasn't on their plan on 1-1-2010. Private insurance ain't all that great either.
