Jasper officer Indiana Trooper of the Year
Indiana State Police trooper Heath Carkuff from the Jasper post was named Indianas Trooper of the Year during an annual awards ceremony Friday in Indianapolis.
Carkuff joined the state police in July 2007, and while working nights last year in Perry and Crawford counties, he issued 1,430 traffic citations and 1,380 warnings.
He made 42 operating-while-intoxicated arrests (10 of them felony counts for second offenses) and 190 criminal arrests and worked 29 crashes and 55 cases.
Meanwhile, three troopers from the Evansville post were among the more than 60 state police employees honored for outstanding service in 2008.
