I'd like to hear your opinions about Pakua International League

You can dislike them all you like but the fact remains that BJJ and Judo are grappling styles, there shouldn't be punching in them, why would there be. Muay Thai is a stand up style, they aren't going to change that to please people like you, some karate styles do have grappling incorporated in them, karate is a generic name you have to look to the specific style for further information. TKD has punches and strikes, it's not all kicking.

You can do these styles or you don't but there's nothing to dislike about them, that would be silly, what you mean is they aren't for you.
I think his whole point was that preferred a non-specialized art where he gets to do some of everything. I don't get the impression he thinks other styles should change to match his preferences, just that he wants to stay with his current style because it covers a wider range of techniques.

That said, BJJ does include strikes. The proliferation of academies focused on the sport side of BJJ has led to striking methods being widely neglected, but they do exist in the martial art of BJJ. (Not to the level of what you would expect from a good specialist striking art, but they do exist and are a standard part of the old-school BJJ fighting repertoire).

(Technically the Judo curriculum also encompasses strikes, but they are only in the kata and are even more widely neglected than the strikes in BJJ.)

Welcome to MartialTalk, TheBronn. Hope you enjoy it.

If you enjoy your training, go gettum', bro. If not, go elsewhere. Just train hard and have fun.

As for going to an MMA gym for serious fighting you will be disappointed, it's all about the training, they don't fight in the gym.

Semantics, my friend. No need to be so adamant about this point. Also, I agree with you. They are just not meant for me. I'll be more careful about how to express myself with this from now on.

Thanks for remaking this. I was wrong. After checking it (Facebook photos) at that time one was grey and the other blue. But is is definitively the same organisation (Pakua.com). Good point @TheBronn .

This is part of the problems the current line of teaching have. I definitely have a different approach on it. The whole point of me creating this topic and participaing on this discussion was for me to decide wether I want to continue with this style or not and wether I'll start teaching seriously or not.

I've decided that I'll continue with it and also that I'll try to make it more similar to Ba Gua instead of what this has become. Even if I need to break with the League.

Semantics, my friend.

Not semantics, your words are the only thing we have to understand what you mean, this is a worldwide site, often English isn't poster's first language, even when it is we still only have your words. When you say you 'dislike' something we take you at your word, we don't know that's not exactly what you mean. 'Dislike' is a strong word that has a distinctive meaning which is going to elicit responses you obviously didn't intend.

Personally I would run a mile from this group after seeing some more of their videos. I sincerely doubt there is any relation to bagua at any level. The things you said you wanted and liked would be best found in a mma gym.

Good luck.

Found this

"International School of Pa-Kua, non-profit organization, founded by Master Rogelio Magliacano. The responsible Master Custodian, Rogelio Magliacano has been dedicated to the study of Martial Arts and healing arts from an early age. He got the high-grade black belt in different martial styles he studied before being prepared to begin learning Pa-Kua with Chinese Master I Chan Ming. After an arduous work of learning, Master I Chan Ming named him as his successor and responsible for guarding and continuing the transmission of Pa-Kua knowledge worldwide and openly, making it available to anyone interested in his study .
Founded in 1976"

I cannot tell you if the school is BS or not and I cannot tell you if it will give you what you are after or not. I can tell you I have looked at the site and the videos and there is no Pa-Kua (Pakua/Bagua) there, there is a turning application and if it is bagua it is bad bagua.

Bagua

This does not mean the school is BS, it could be a translation error or a coincidence that it has the name Pakua. But from a Chinese Martial arts view, that is not Bagua/Pakua
I take a Tai Chi class at a Pakua International school. I have been trying to find out more about the lineage of this organization. I have found the same information that you posted. But I run into a wall of nothingness when I try and research who Master I Chan Ming is and what his lineage is relative to any style. This is giving me some red flags. My main martial art is a Korean style originating prior to TKD called Tang Soo Do, so I have very little knowledge about Chinese styles even though my lineage is connected to the Tang Dynasty. I am able to find lots of information about the Tang Soo Do Lineage, so I feel it is a little strange that there is a named master I Chan Ming and there is no information about him.

There is always a risk to turn your back into your opponent. If your opponent

- wraps your waist, and
- turn with you,

he can drag you down. People try to take a special angle to avoid that body turn. Bagua guys like to turn a lot. Just wonder what their solution may be?

like this teachers movement, spirit.

It’s funny, I read through this thread and discovered that I commented a couple times back in its early days, including comments on a video that was posted. I have absolutely no memory of this thread or that video. I must be getting old.

As I was reading and watching the video I found myself formulating a response in my head, only to discover that I already made the response.

I would say the red flags are well founded, at least in the claim that this is Bagua, which it is not. Listen to your gut.
